The Project, The Plant
Kounoune Power SA, a subsidiary of Melec PowerGen Inc, is a Senegalese limited liability company established in 2004 for the construction and operation of the power station. The 15-years energy supply contract with Senelec was signed on February 5th 2005. On May 18th 2005, the World Bank approved credits, loans and partial risk guarantees of the project. The African Development Bank approved project investment on June 22nd 2005, and the loan agreement was signed on November 18th 2005. On July 21st 2006, the African Development Bank and Kounoune Power SA signed security agreements of mortgage, collateral and pledges in Dakar. The strategic partners of Kounoune Power SA are Mitsubishi and Matelec S.A.L, a division of the Doumet group.
The Kounoune power station is an oil-fired power station in Senegal. It is located in Kounoune, 23 kilometres (14 mi) east of Dakar.
The plant consists of 9 diesel gensets of 7.5MW each completed with all auxiliary equipment, 90kV substation, fuel storage and pipeline.
Kounoune Power plant was inaugurated and launched on Januray 22, 2008.
